Secas, enchentes, poluição e contaminação nos rios, lagos e aqüíferos estão diariamente nas manchetes da mídia. Retração das geleiras e aumento do nível dos oceanos também. Os sinais de uma crise generalizada nos recursos hídricos estão por toda parte. É evidente que a comunidade internacional, os governos nacionais, as empresas e a sociedade civil organizada devem se reorganizar para realmente prevenir, corrigir ou mesmo adaptar-se aos graves efeitos de um desenvolvimento não sustentável.
O workshop internacional “Water Crisis” foi um evento que abordou uma variedade de aspectos relacionados à crise mundial nas águas: rios, lagos, reservatórios, áreas costeiras, áreas úmidas. Outros tópicos tais como as águas urbanas, a educação para as águas, a governança para as águas foram discutidos, assim como o nosso futuro em relação às águas. Inúmeros especialistas de renome internacional estavam presentes.
Está na hora de mudarmos as estratégias, as políticas e as atitudes em relação às águas do planeta, seja ao nível nacional, através dos acordos multilaterais e também mudando comportamentos e atitudes em nosso grupo social. Temos que adotar medidas e cobrar soluções para impedir os piores efeitos da crise mundial das águas que se aproxima. |

Today, droughts, floodings, pollution and contamination of rivers, lakes and aquifers are topics of great relevance. Shrinkage of glaciers and rising levels of oceans are also present in the leadlines of the global midia. The signs of global crisis in water resources are everywhere. It is clear that the international community, national governments, companies and civil society organizations are failing or not taking the right decisions. The sustainable development is a distant utopy.
The event will cover all aspects related to the global crisis: rivers, lakes, reservoirs, coastal areas. Other major areas of interest such as wetlands, urban waters were also included in the discussions. The Unesco programs for non formal education for water were also addresses as well as the water governance. The workshop also dedicated some time to address the thema of the future of water in our planet. Numerous internationally renowned experts will be present .
It is time to change strategies, policies and attitudes at the international community level, at the national level. We also need to find ways for changing concepts and attitudes in our social group. It is time to take actions and charge solutions from decision makers and other stack holders in order to avoid the worst effects of the incoming global water crisis. |
